Friday night's 4-0 victory against Malta in their Euro 2024 qualifying match required Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka to be replaced at halftime due to an ankle injury.

Following Bukayo Saka's substitution due to injury during the Three Lions' 4-0 victory against Malta on Friday, England boss Gareth Southgate has issued an update on the player.

In their Euro 2024 qualifying match at the National Stadium in Ta' Qali, Saka was taken off at halftime with his team leading by three goals.

The Malta defender Ferdinando Apap's deflection of the Arsenal winger's cross into the goal helped England score first that evening.

The Three Lions' second goal of the game was scored by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was excellent in his new midfield position, before Harry Kane converted a penalty after being fouled by Matthew Guillaumier.

Saka's ankle gave out as a Maltese defender slid into him toward the conclusion of the first half. Before limping back on, he received treatment for many minutes.

Despite the fact that Saka was replaced by Phil Foden at halftime, he appeared to be moving with more freedom in stoppage time when he tested goalkeeper Henry Bonello into a low save with a stinging effort.

Saka was taken off as a precaution, but Southgate allayed concerns that the 21-year-old had suffered significant injury by admitting as much in the news conference following the game.

He's great. Given the result, we simply didn't want to take a chance with him," Southgate said stoically.

After Saka left the game, England scored one more goal, with Callum Wilson capping the scoring late on with another penalty.

On Monday night at Old Trafford, England will resume its Euro 2024 qualifying campaign when they play North Macedonia. The Three Lions will strive to keep their perfect record in the group.
