The cases of students dying through drowning is becoming rampant nowadays. Not long ago, a student was drowned in river and recently, another sad incident has occurred.
A 19-year old Junior High School student, with an identity as Shadrach Addy, in a heartbreaking turn of events, met his untimely life after drowning in the River Densu. This sad incidence took place on the 14th day of June, 2023 in Oparekrom in the Eastern Region of Ghana which is located in the Nsawam Adoagyiri. The body of this deceased young student was recovered on the following day. That is, on 15th June,2023.
The report of the eyewitnesses indicated that, on the day the incidence happened, Shadrach Addy and his friends went to the Densu River for an unauthorized swimming session. This means that, they went to the river without seeking authorization from their teachers. Tragedy struck around 2 O'clock (2:00) PM when Shadrach was reported to had drowned in the river irrespective of the attempt made by his friends to deliver him.
Regrettably, the forceful current of the river carried Shadrach's body away which made the searching became difficult for his friends so as to rescue him from the river. However, during the next morning at roughly 10:30 AM, the authorities in the community were able to recover the lifeless body of Shadrach. Presently, his lifeless body is being held at the Nsawam Government hospital where it'll be under disquisition by the police.
This sudden incident serves as a dimmed memorial of the significance of water safety and the implicit consequences of engaging in various activities without proper authorization and supervision. As an educational community, efforts must be taken to emphasise the relevance of responsible decision- making which is most importantly among young individuals.
Let us all work together to help put an end to similar tragedies from happening in the near future through the prioritization of safety measures as well as promoting responsible behavior
among our students.
