A Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick made rounds after the eighth birthday of one of the striker's funniest moments.

The Al Nassr man has had a bit of a love-hate relationship with deadball attempts throughout his career, with shots from 40 yards all the way to some pretty hilarious attempts.

Unfortunately for the striker, Friday marks the anniversary of perhaps his worst attempt yet.

Portugal had the worst possible start to their 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil, losing 4-0 to eventual champions Germany - but the match is often remembered for more than just the score.

With Ronaldo's Portugal struggling, the 38-year-old tried his best to solve his own problems, taking a short free-kick from about 45 yards in to create a chance. society through a less formal approach. Preparing to kick the ball, but goalkeeper Manuel Neuer of Germany showed little confidence in the opponent's ability to threaten the goal. He erected a one-man wall, including Philipp Lahm, and challenged the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to a shot.

He did, but things didn't go as planned. Ronaldo finished, aimed directly at the goal with the famous tackle technique but sent the ball straight into Lahm's feet.

Most of those present in Salvador sighed, but the German fans grinned while one commentator couldn't help laughing. Portugal lost in the group stage of the tournament, finishing third in the group behind Germany and the United States. However, they quickly recovered by winning Euro 2016 two years later.

Meanwhile, Germany beat Lionel Messi's Argentina in the final after Mario Gotze scored in extra time, with Pepe sent off for a group stage game against Portugal, a match Thomas Muller also set up. Double for future champions.
