Ibrahima Konaté has demonstrated her ruthless habit of playing for France - turning down a young player's chance to score in training with the first team.

Konate, 24, was one of Liverpool's standout performers during a disappointing season last season and is now a solid starter at centre-back alongside Virgil van Dijk.

His performances for the Reds earned him a place in the France squad for the World Cup and he made five appearances for his country in Qatar, helping them reach the final where they lost to Argentina on penalties.

He was called back by coach Didier Deschamps this month for France's Euro 2024 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Greece.

Konaté started a 3-0 win over Gibraltar on Friday and will make a comeback when France host Greece at the Stade de France on Monday. Before their win over Gibraltar, the French senior team took some time out of their busy schedule to help train young players - presumably at their national football center in Clairefontaine.

Clips posted to Instagram by the French national team account show the French superstars instructing young players in dribbling and shooting exercises.

In one clip, Kylian Mbappe can be seen cheering on a young player before urging him to shoot into the unguarded goal.

The youngster took aim and appeared to have scored before Konate missed and blocked the ball before running off laughing at Mbappe's disbelief.

Liverpool fans have certainly seen the funny side of the video, which you can check out below. "He's a threat, I LOVE him," one fan posted on Twitter.

"He's not shy," another added.

The third person wrote:

"Savage, that is," followed by crying and laughing emojis.

While the fourth added:

"Good defender, don't let anyone score, not even a child."

Konate will play a key role for Liverpool next season as they look to battle their way into the top four and potentially challenge for the Premier League title.

Speaking earlier this month, Konate said the Merseyside club should sign some new players this summer if they want to compete for top honors. "I think we have four players leaving this season, Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain], [Naby] Keita, [James] Milner and [Roberto] Firmino," he told RMC.

"We have to replace them. If not, how do we do that? We have a lack of staff and quality? We can't play with young people at this level."
