Jude Bellingham, an English midfielder who will cost Real Madrid more than €130 million, has drawn the ire of Gavi. Meanwhile, Barcelona's financial woes persist.
Despite the Catalans' inability to match the financial flex, Barcelona midfielder Gavi has stated that Real Madrid's acquisition of Jude Bellingham for an initial €103 million is of no significance to them.
Only Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar would have ever moved for more money. If all add-ons are exercised, Bellingham's transfer to Real may approach €130 million in total, potentially placing the Englishman in the top five most expensive transfers of all time.
But in sharp contrast to Real, who are spending a ton of money, Barcelona are still having financial difficulties. While fresh, long-agreed-upon contracts for Gavi and Ronald Araujo have recently been approved by La Liga, the Catalans were unable to persuade Lionel Messi that they would have the resources to ease his return.
Similar to this, the club's continued emphasis on pursuing free transfers stems from its low financial resources.
In spite of this, Barcelona won its first La Liga championship under Xavi in 2022–23, with Gavi at the center of a largely youthful team that will develop together.
He told SPORT, "Barça is not in the finest economic situation right now, but we have emerged from the young youth academy and we have a terrific team.
"Madrid is free to sign anybody they want. We are going to the bitter end with ours. I'm signed up, everything is well, and I'm thrilled to be at Barça.
