According to La Tercara, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has refused to re-sign former Gunners and Manchester United star Alexis Sanches.

The Chilean weighs his options as he decides whether to continue at Olympique de Marseille. He had a good campaign for Igor Tudor's side last season. The former Barcelona and Udinese phenomenon has scored 18 goals and provided three assists in 44 games in all competitions.

Sanchez has established himself as one of the best players in the world during his time at Arsenal and has been a phenomenon under Arsene Wenger. The Chilean has scored 80 goals and has 45 assists in 166 games for the north London side.

However, he has underperformed at Manchester United after joining the Red Devils from the Gunners. In addition to playing a key role in United's 3-2 win over Manchester City in the Manchester derby, the winger was also a failure. Sanchez has scored 5 goals and has 9 assists in 45 games for the Reds.

With Arteta looking to strengthen his squad as the Gunners prepare for the return of the UEFA Champions League next season, youth is at the core of the Spaniard. So Sanchez, 34, doesn't fit the mold.

What does the Marseille coach say about former Arsenal player Alexis Sanchez?

In his prime, Alexis Sanchez was one of the best players in the world and a phenomenon at Arsenal. However, the player has yet to regain his form since moving to Manchester United.

However, Sanchez showed his generational talent in the season just ended for Marseille. Their manager, Igor Tudor, made a great statement about the Chilean forward (via talkSPORT):

β€œHe is an important player on our team. Football at Olympique de Marseille changes when he plays. He is a player on another level. He's a player that sometimes we don't pay attention to his level of play because he's an ordinary and humble person."

He added:

"He doesn't behave like a star, but for me, after the aliens (Lionel) Messi, (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Kylian) Mbappe and (Erling) Haaland, he's there. He's there. an irreplaceable player, and every team in the world in his absence will feel it, so we feel it too.

Besides talent and technique, Sanchez is also a tenacious player, overwhelming opponents. While the 34-year-old has dropped a foot or two over the years, the level of the former Arsenal and Manchester United star was on display for Tudor's side last season.
