Nacho Fernandez, a defender for Real Madrid, admitted that after Spain's victory in the Nations League on Sunday, he feels as though he is held to a different level when representing his country.
After Osasuna captain David Garcia sustained an injury, the 33-year-old was unexpectedly called up to the Spain team to face Italy and subsequently Croatia.
However, Nacho did play a significant role in preventing a one-on-one opportunity by making a last-ditch challenge on Lovro Majer.
Nacho told Cadena SER, "It was a last-ditch play and it worked wonderfully, it helped us to raise the title, so I'm extremely thrilled.
I'm very proud to represent [Spain], it's the best thing that can happen to you, and today is one of the best days of my life, so simply put, I have goosebumps. Representing your nation and winning a championship is something that very few players can achieve.
Although it initially felt like everything was going wrong and that we weren't working very well, we all managed to come out of it happier for ourselves and Spain while still vowing to continue fighting. Nacho continued by saying that he felt that he had to work harder than others to get the same accolades. "In one more game, I've demonstrated [my abilities] and revealed my identity in a crucial contest. I constantly feel as though I have to work twice as hard as the other players. Nacho has been one of the most reliable performers in Spain for a number of years, but even if he continues to play for fewer than half of Real Madrid's minutes during the season, his place in the team's hierarchy makes up for it.
