Following his outstanding performance against Malta, Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has indicated that England manager Gareth Southgate would be happy to employ him in the midfield once more.
Alexander-Arnold has established himself as a right-back in professional football despite having played midfield in his youth. However, he was unexpectedly given the number 10 jersey for the Euro 2024 qualifying match last week.
The 24-year-old was successful in the role, which made use of his skill with the ball, and he even scored a beautiful goal as the Three Lions romped to a 4-0 triumph.
Alexander-Arnold's future use in that manner would depend on the opponent and the circumstances of the game, but Southgate has emphasized that he is still willing to consider the possibility.
The England manager stated, "I won't think twice about playing him there again."
However, the quality of the play is the quality of the play, and lower-class players couldn't have achieved that even against a lower opponent. Of course, we should always be cautious of the level of the opponent. He accomplished everything we had hoped he would, and perhaps even a little bit more in terms of pressing, intensity, and adaptation. We were pleased with him greatly.Alexander-Arnold has had trouble establishing himself as a regular at the international level, despite being praised for his performances for Liverpool over the past several years. In actuality, after making his senior debut for England in 2018, he has played in just 19 of close to 70 matches.
In terms of depth, right-back is perhaps England's strongest position, and Alexander-Arnold has frequently been passed over because of his alleged defensive shortcomings.
After the Malta match, the player even asserted that a more permanent midfield position might be a means for him to become a more reliable member of the team.
"There is no doubt that this is a possibility; it is one that the management and I both want to investigate more. Who knows, but it's one that's exciting for the future. said Alexander-Arnold.
"I personally want to play in as many England games as I can, and that has always been my goal, giving the manager trouble.
