Brendan Rodgers called his decision to rejoin Celtic "a very simple decision," but he was immediately reminded of the effort needed to placate certain supporters who were dissatisfied with the way he left.
Four years and four months after Postecoglou abruptly left the Hoops for Leicester after winning seven of the seven domestic championships, Celtic announced that Rodgers had signed a three-year contract to take over as manager.
24 hours after he left for Leicester in February 2019, the Green Brigade and other members of the standing section at Celtic Park displayed a banner at Tynecastle, and the North Curve Celtic Twitter account quickly shared a picture of it.
You exchanged immortality for mediocrity, the placard declared. Not a Celt. A fake always.
"I am really delighted to return to Celtic and I am hugely excited by this great opportunity," Rodgers stated on the team's website. It was a pretty easy choice for me and my family when I was given the opportunity to be asked to rejoin the club. We've had some wonderful times at Celtic in the past, and this will be my ambition once more: to play fantastic football, make sure we have a team that everyone enjoys watching, and ultimately bring more success to our supporters.Ange has worked so hard over the past two years, and I will do everything in my power to keep Celtic's mother happy.
At the club, we have a group of players and staff members who are incredibly amazing and skilled, and I am looking forward to meeting them all and getting to work right away.
Despite rumors that Postecoglou wanted to hire John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan for Tottenham, who are reportedly set to hire Rodgers' longtime assistant, Chris Davies, Celtic have affirmed that the coaching staff directly under Rodgers will remain the same.
Kennedy, a former defender for Scotland and Celtic, had previously been an attempt by Rodgers to bring Kennedy to Leicester.
