The Mk 2 Golf Country, a factory-produced off-roader based on the humble hatchback in its second generation, is a new concept that Delta4x4 hopes to bring into production. If you've been a fan of Volkswagens for decades, you may remember that. The eighth-generation GTI's suspension appears to be beefed up, and roof racks and additional lighting appear to enhance its capabilities.
Delta4x4 intends to produce 25 of these, despite the fact that it is currently only a concept. The package is currently estimated to cost €35,000, or more than $38,200, and the price moves in the opposite direction when there are fewer orders. Ouch. What would the money buy you? There is a long list of people waiting. The entire package, which includes raising the vehicle by 80 millimeters (3.15 inches) if production proceeds, will require six to nine months to develop. You might not have noticed it right away, but the front and rear fenders are also wider than the stock ones, which makes it possible to have a wider track and more suspension travel. The roof rack houses essentials like jerry cans, sandboards, a spare wheel, a shovel, and water containers, and all-terrain tires wrapped around wheels that may or may not be beadlock capable are also evident. Finally, we have brand-new roof rack and hood lighting, new front and rear badges, and, for some strange reason, a red stripe in the front fascia that looks like it belongs on a Golf GTI. It is safe to assume that the tuner would provide the build with some upgrades inside and underbody protection, but will that be sufficient?
We support the concept of a budget 911 Dakar or a modern Golf Country, but we hope the tuner can make the Haldex system compatible with off-road driving. The car will not be useful off the beaten path just because all four wheels are being driven.
But Delta4x4 is the same company that made a Tesla into a toy that broke trails, so we're sure it will do its homework again.
