Arsenal told they will have to pay around £50m for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber

Arsenal have made an initial bid of £30 million for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber but have been informed that they will need to increase their offer if they want to secure his services. The 22-year-old Dutch international is highly regarded and valued at around £50 million. However, Timber has expressed a strong desire to join Arsenal, indicating his interest in a potential move.

Manager Mikel Arteta is keen on acquiring a versatile defender who excels in ball distribution and can play at right back initially before filling in midfield, similar to Oleksandr Zinchenko's role at Manchester City. Timber's skill set aligns with Arteta's requirements, making him an attractive target for the Gunners. Last summer, Timber was also on the radar of Manchester United, and Liverpool has shown recent interest in him as well.

With a reported summer budget of approximately £180 million, Arsenal is actively working on other potential signings alongside Timber. They are pursuing deals for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice and Chelsea forward Kai Havertz. Additionally, Southampton's Romeo Lavia is being considered as Arsenal awaits offers for Thomas Partey. Meanwhile, Granit Xhaka has received an offer from Bayer Leverkusen, potentially opening up a midfield spot.

In case negotiations with Ajax do not progress as desired, Arsenal has identified Red Bull Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan as an alternative option. Simakan could be pursued if the Gunners fail to reach a compromise for Timber.

Overall, Arsenal seems determined to strengthen their squad this summer, targeting key positions and looking to make substantial investments. The pursuit of Timber reflects their ambition to bolster their defensive options and add a player who can contribute in multiple positions. As negotiations continue and other potential deals unfold, Arsenal's transfer plans will undoubtedly shape their squad for the upcoming season.
