Christopher Nkunku, a France international, has officially been acquired by Chelsea from RB Leipzig.
In December, the 25-year-old signed a pre-contract agreement to join the team; however, the transfer has since been finalized for an estimated £63 million.
He is the first significant player to arrive at Stamford Bridge since Mauricio Pochettino's appointment as the club's new manager was officially announced. He scored 23 goals in 36 games for the Bundesliga team last season.
Nkunku expressed his joy upon joining Chelsea on the club's website.
"A lot of work was put into getting me to the club, and I am looking forward to meeting my new coach and teammates and showcasing my abilities on the field for the Chelsea fans."
The Blues and the France international first came to a deal soon after the summer 2022 transfer window closed.
After helping Leipzig finish the 2022–23 season in the top four and win the DFB–Pokal, Nkunku has officially finalized his transfer to west London on a six-year contract.
Nkunku stated in a statement: "I am over the moon to be joining Chelsea. It took a lot of work to get me to the club, and I'm eager to get to know my new coach, my teammates, and the Chelsea fans while also showcasing my abilities on the field.I've played in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, and now I want to play in the Premier League, one of the world's top leagues.
Nkunku is the first player signed formally under Mauricio Pochettino.
The 25-year-old struggled with injuries throughout the 2022–23 campaign, but he was still able to have a significant influence in his final season at Leipzig, scoring 23 goals and dishing out nine assists in 36 games across all competitions.Prior to the summer 2022 transfer window closing, the France international initially agreed to join Chelsea.
