Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is on the hunt for plenty of signings to bolster his squad this summer ahead of the club's return to the Champions League.

Newcastle United's smart transfer policy looks set to continue, with the club targeting a young Bundesliga star this summer.

Manager Eddie Howe is being praised for his work so far in the North East, leading the club to last season's League Cup final and perhaps more importantly, breaking into the top four. which means next season marks the return of the Champions League for the Warblers for the first time since the 2002/03 campaign.

Howe is tipped to spend big this summer as the club look to build on his promising campaign. It's an idea they have resisted so far since taking over Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund in 2021, despite the record signing of Alexander Isak for £63m last summer. . And now, another wise move is on the cards, with Newcastle linked with one of European football's promising young stars. According to the Telegraph, Hertha Berlin striker Derry Scherhant could soon get a starting spot at St James' Park.

The 20-year-old German is sure to be a big future signing for Howe, having made just 10 Bundesliga appearances so far, eight of them as a substitute. The majority of those appearances came at the end of the season as Hertha struggled for relegation unsuccessfully.

The striker has already scored one goal for the first team, although he has played well in the second team, scoring eight goals in 12 appearances along with 16 goals last season. And he will likely only cost the Premier League club around £1.5m, a small sum in today's market.

The links appeared to be further proof that Howe didn't want to overspend, even though James Maddison was offered a large sum of money to move to St James' Park. And it follows the arrest of West Ham Under-21 defender Harrison Ashby last January. Hertha Berlin's Derry Scherhant

The club are set to boost their revenue by £100m to help fuel their desire to compete at the top of Europe. Fourth place secures more than £50 million in prize money and TV revenue.

They would have made an extra £20m if, on their last foray under Sir Bobby Robson 20 years ago, they managed to make it through the initial group stage. Owners are expected to announce a new shirt sponsor in July, which will increase the amount raised from the kit from £8m a year to around £25m.
