Former Manchester United youngster Martin Svidersky is yet to make his Almeria debut - a year after he turned down Erik ten Hag's contract offer.

Last summer, Svidersky was listed as the only United academy player whose contract was about to expire to be offered a new deal.

However, the Slovakian has decided not to prolong his stay at Old Trafford and instead look for first-team opportunities elsewhere.

Svidersky followed in the footsteps of Largie Ramazani and Arnau Puigmal by moving from United to a Spanish club, signing a five-year deal with Almeria last summer.

However, the 20-year-old has yet to play for the Andalusian team - the team that was close to being relegated to the second division of Spanish football last season. While he has not yet played for the first team, Svidersky has played for Almeria's B team this season, which play in the regionalized fifth division of Spanish football.

Svidersky played ten times for Almeria's B team, scoring no goals and receiving a red card on his debut against El Palo.

Svidersky Man Utd career

Svidersky, a defensive midfielder, is often compared to five-time Premier League winner Michael Carrick as he advanced at Old Trafford.

United beat competition from Chelsea and Liverpool to sign Svidersky in 2018, while the then-teenager also tried out at Manchester City, West Ham and Celtic.

However, three weeks before completing his move to Old Trafford, he tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus and required surgery. Injuries will keep him out of action for a whole year.

Svidersky then made his U23 debut for United in September 2020, in an EFL Trophy draw with Rochdale.

Meanwhile, that season, the player was named the club's Under-18 Scholar of the Year.

United did their best to keep Svidersky - offered him a new and improved contract.

However, the Old Trafford club managed to secure a small compensation for the Slovakia Under-21 international in recognition of his three years in Manchester to develop. Advertisement

Of course, things have not gone as planned for the players since then. After spending time at three different youth systems in his native Slovakia before moving to United in 2018, Svidersky could take it a step further this summer in pursuit of a first-team spot.
