That's according to a report from The Athletic, which suggests Pep Guardiola's men could target the Villarreal star later on if they are unable to sign Josko Gvardiol.

West Ham seem to have a real chance to progress this summer. They will participate in the Europa League next year. And as they are about to lose their best player, their transfer cat will be boosted by £100m. West Ham interested in Pau Torres

And it looks like The Hammers have their eyes on Pau Torres. The Athletic report West Ham and Aston Villa have expressed interest in the 26-year-old.

The Yellow Submarine may be powerless to prevent Torres from leaving at this window. 90min previously reported that he has a £42.8m release clause in his contract.

The signing of Torres would be a big statement of intent from West Ham. He is an 'incredible' defender who will enter the best years of his career.

It says a lot that he is someone Manchester City - as well as Villa - are tracking. He holds the ball very well, often going high in midfield. And he has a lot of rhythm.

Of course, strengthening the midfield will be a priority for West Ham should Declan Rice leave. But if they feel like Pau Torres would be interested in a move to the London Stadium in the meantime, then surely the Hammers will act immediately.
