In recent years, the telecommunication industry has seen an explosion in the number of active mobile users all over the world. In Ghana, the competition between the three major network providers, MTN, Vodafone, and Airtel Tigo, is intense. One of the ways these service providers try to attract customers is via free services such as free calls, SMS, and data. In this essay, we will compare and contrast MTN, Vodafone, and Airtel Tigo's free services and discuss their benefits and drawbacks.
MTN is the oldest of the three providers and has a vast customer base. MTN provides its customers with a wide range of free services, including free WhatsApp, free national calls, and SMS. MTN's free services, however, are available at specific times of the day and mostly to customers who have subscribed to certain data packages. For example, MTN provides free WhatsApp to its customers who have subscribed to any of their daily, weekly, or monthly data packages. Additionally, free national calls, which are limited to twenty minutes only, are provided to customers who have subscribed to the MTN pulse package. These services are terrific incentives for MTN's loyal customers, but the restrictions associated with them may not be appealing to some customers.
Vodafone is the second-largest telecom provider in Ghana. Vodafone has comparable free services to MTN, with free WhatsApp, free national calls, and SMS also included in their package. Nevertheless, Vodafone provides its customers with a unique feature that stands out – the ability to roll over unused data to the next month. Vodafone's roll over feature is excellent for customers who are unable to exhaust their data package within the month and need the unused portion for the following month. Additionally, Vodafone provides its customers with free Facebook, although the service is available to only customers who have subscribed to any of their data bundles. Vodafone's free services are well-received by their customers, which adds to the network provider's reputation.
Airtel Tigo is the smallest of the three telecom providers, but it caters to a significant part of Ghana's population. Similar to MTN and Vodafone, Airtel Tigo provides its customers with free national calls, and free WhatsApp. These services are, however, available to only customers who have subscribed to any of the service provider's data packages. Airtel Tigo provides its customers with free after-call service, which allows customers to send a text message to their caller after a call has ended, thanking them for the call. This feature is quite unique and has received positive reviews from customers, which is an endorsement for Airtel Tigo.
In terms of coverage, all three network providers have extensive coverage in Ghana. MTN has the largest coverage, which spans the country and its surrounding environs. Vodafone's coverage is relatively similar to MTN. Airtel Tigo has substantial coverage in the country's northern part, but it lags behind its competitors in the South and other regions.
In conclusion, the free services provided by MTN, Vodafone, and Airtel Tigo are great incentives for their customers. Each of the telecom providers has unique free services, although the services' availability is restricted to customers who have subscribed to their data packages. Additionally, each of the three network providers has a vast coverage area across Ghana. However, the availability of network coverage could be affected by environmental factors, as remote areas may experience network disruptions. Ultimately, customers should review the incentives provided by each network provider and make choices based on their individual preferences and usage patterns.
