Manchester United made Mason Mount's transfer stance clear as Chelsea rejects a £50 million bid.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to recruit Mason Mount this summer, but Chelsea have already rejected their first two bids for the England international.
Manchester United has launched a new £50 million approach for Mason Mount, but has warned Chelsea that they will not be held hostage.
United made a second proposal of £45 million plus £5 million in add-ons for Mount, which Chelsea quickly rejected and demanded £60 million plus a further £5 million.
Despite Erik ten Hag's interest in the England midfielder, United have made it clear to Chelsea that they will not be forced to pay more than they believe he is worth. With only a year left on his current deal, United believes their latest offer reflects Mount's current market value and are unwilling to overpay for him.
While personal conditions have already been agreed upon between Mount and United, the final hurdle remains the money with Chelsea, with the deal hanging in the balance unless the two teams can reach an agreement.
Mount is anxious to join United and restart his career, which has stopped at Chelsea, while Ten Hag feels Mount can find his best form under him at United.
While Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal have already made additions to their squads, United have yet to make their first acquisition of the summer, with the takeover crisis impeding Ten Hag's ability to do his business as soon as he would like.
The United manager is eager to capitalize on his team's third-place finish and rapid return to the Champions League last season. Ten Hag also ended United's six-year trophy drought by leading them to Carabao Cup victory, but he understands he needs to enhance his squad if they are to fight for the crown next season.
"The club knows if you want to play top four, compete for trophies in this tough league, you have to invest," the Dutchman remarked at the close of last season.
