Karim Benzema claims to be the "best in the world" while N'Golo Kante switches to Saudi Arabia.
N'Golo Kante has finalized his big-money move to Saudi club Al-Ittihad, where he will play with countryman Karim Benzema, who made the same move earlier this summer.
After being joined by his compatriot in Saudi Arabia, Karim Benzema has lauded N'Golo Kante as the finest box-to-box midfielder in the world.
Over the past few weeks, the Chelsea star has been in talks with Al-Ittihad about a free move when his contract at Stamford Bridge expires. His change of heart has now been proven.
Kante, aged 32, has signed a four-year contract with the Saudi club, and it has been estimated that he would earn roughly £86 million each year. Al-Ittihad also published a video greeting from one of their other big-name additions, Karim Benzema, as part of their announcement.
Speaking from a plane, the former Real Madrid striker said: “Hi, N’Golo, one time told you that you were the best player box-to-box in the world. Now, I’m happy to play with you again. And of course with the best team in Saudi. See you in Jeddah.”
The two-time Premier League winner then replied and expressed his delight at the deal. Kante said: “Thank you, Karim. Nice to see you again. Thank you for your words.
“I’m very pleased to play with you, the best player in the world. I’m very excited to play with the Tigers in front of the fans at Al Jawhara.”
Benzema was not the only one who congratulated Kante on his new contract. "N'Golo's impact and influence during his time at Chelsea cannot be overstated," said Chelsea's co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.
"His tireless midfield performances contributed to several trophy wins and secured him a place in the club's history." We wish him the best as he begins the next phase of his career."
Kante departs Chelsea having won six trophies during his stint at the club after joining from Leicester. The Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, and other competitions are included.
Edouard Mendy is also nearing a deal with Al-Ahli, while Kalidou Koulibaly is ready to join Al-Hilal barely a year after joining the club from Italian giants Napoli.
That infusion of players would be the next chapter in what has been a profitable season in the Saudi Pro League. Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the first international talents to go to the Gulf State, and he was followed by Portugal colleague Ruben Neves.
A wide range of players have been connected, including Saul Niguez, Bernardo Silva, and Heung Min-Son.
