Manchester United plan to sell players this summer to raise funds for a transfer - but the club have a terrible track record of recovering money from unwanted members of the squad.
ESPN says United have a transfer budget of between £100m and £150m, which is unlikely to be enough to secure all the players coach Erik ten Hag is looking for.
The Dutchman is keen to sign a new striker, with Tottenham striker Harry Kane at the top of his list.
Spurs are demanding at least £100m for Kane, despite only one year remaining on his current contract.

United are also in talks to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea and received an offer of around £50m on Wednesday by the London club, who are holding on to more than £60m. United are also interested in signing West Ham captain Declan Rice - for more than £100m this summer, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea also keeping an eye on the midfielder.
United's modest transfer budget may have been boosted by player sales, but the Old Trafford club have a poor record when it comes to player sales, especially since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down as manager in 2016. two thousand and thirteen.

A new Reddit post has compiled a list of the 10 best-selling players of the post-Fergie era using Transfermarkt figures, and it's not at all pleasant for United supporters.
The biggest purchase in recent years was Romelu Lukaku's move from United to Inter Milan in 2019 for €74m (£63.5m).
This was followed by the sale of Angel Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain in 2014 for 63 million euros (£54 million). Then there was a sharp drop to the next biggest buy in the post-Ferguson era, with Daniel James' €29m (£25m) move to Leeds United in 2021, standing third on the list.

The Wire claims that in the 10 years since Ferguson left as manager, United have earned just €398.4m (£342m) from player sales.
To put that into perspective, United's rivals Manchester City raised 162.1 million euros (£139 million) last summer alone.
United need to find a way to improve their record with Ten Hag in need of reinforcements with their main rivals all strengthening their squad.
Several players could be sold to raise money this summer, including captain Harry Maguire, Dean Henderson, Fred, Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay. Advertisement
