Luis Díaz is on international duty against Germany and had a good run, which could indicate Liverpool's next ideal transfer for Jürgen Klopp.
It's still early in the summer transfer window for Liverpool. In what is expected to be a busy time, Jürgen Klopp will be looking for many new additions to the squad and bolstering his options ahead of next season. One has gone to Alexis Mac Allister but others will follow in the weeks and months to come.
Without a doubt, one of Liverpool's main targets is midfield. Having lost a significant source of depth with the departures of James Milner, Naby Keïta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, it is clear Klopp needs to replace them and add quality.
But it's not just the quarterback who may need reinforcements. In defense, there's also a lot of thought that has to be done.
Liverpool could have a choice between Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konaté and Joël Matip. But with the last three players quite vulnerable to injury, and Matip and Van Dijk not so young anymore, that leaves Klopp's side a bit vulnerable. In the long term, Matip's contract expires next season and he is unlikely to extend his stay at Anfield as he is already 33 years old. Furthermore, while Gomez and Konaté have both replaced Van Dijk at left centre-back, neither of them feel comfortable in that position and are better suited on the right flank.
That's why signing a left-back is likely to be on Liverpool's agenda this summer. A defender who could be an ideal target is someone who has just proven himself against one of the Red Devils at Luis Díaz.
Díaz's Colombia beat Germany 2-0 on Tuesday night when the Liverpool winger scored a goal in the game. However, while Díaz impressed on a disappointing night for Germany, the Germans had a good time thanks to Malick Thiaw's performance.
Liverpool Luis Diaz Malick Thiaw
Malick Thiaw has a beautiful tackle on Liverpool's Luis Díaz.
Without the AC Milan defender, things could have been much worse for Germany, with Thiaw putting in a stellar performance exemplified by a superb tackle on Díaz as the winger's winger. Liverpool looked perfect in front of goal.
Thiaw is someone who has been linked with Liverpool in the past according to Sky Italia, and he ticks many of the criteria for the type of player Klopp needs in his system.
Capable of playing both left and right, Thiaw is strong in the air, holds the ball comfortably and has the rebound speed to play in high defence. At just 21, he has a bright future ahead of him and was brought to Milan by legendary defender Paolo Maldini last summer.
It would take a huge offer for Liverpool to get him out of the San Siro. But for Thiaw, a bold offer could be worth his potential and interesting profile.
He's someone Liverpool would know well, and with times like his just going through, it's hard to imagine anyone better suited to be a defender in Klopp's system. That's why Díaz may have just sent the perfect reminder of who's next target this transfer window.
