Messi set to boost club's fortunes by qualifying for knockout

Even before Lionel Messi was announced as Inter Miami's newest player, one of his new teammates made headlines, but not for the reasons he wanted.

Club goalkeeper Nick Marsman is currently recovering from a venomous spider bite. Marsman, who will be among the last generation of players to have the honor of playing alongside Messi, was bitten while on vacation in Florida.

The gruesome and painful incident was confirmed by Marsman's wife, Nathalie Den Dekker, who took to Instagram to share snaps of her husband in hospital.

De Dekker followed with a bittersweet caption that said;

"The flip side of living in a tropical climate... is when you go to the zoo and get bitten by a venomous spider. You end up being hospitalized for three days."

She later revealed that the former Feyenoord star has been released and is continuing to recuperate at home.

As the Mirror reports, Marsman has barely competed this season, with Drake Callender often being prioritized as the number one pick. The club are currently entrenched at the bottom of the East Group, hoping the arrival of Messi will change their fortunes in their bid to qualify for the knockout stages.

Bale's advice to Messi before moving to MLS

Sports Brief also reports that Gareth Bale has considered the American Professional Football League (MLS) following Lionel Messi's famous transfer to Inter Miami, offering him the league.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid winger, who ended his career at the age of 33, thinks MLS has less pressure as teams are more accepting of defeat.

Bale's comments come in response to Messi's move to the United States after he finished two years with Paris Saint-Germain.
