In the world of academia, some individuals shine brightly, leaving an indelible mark on their chosen fields. Alberta Odura Quartey was one such exceptional talent—a brilliant scholar who embarked on a promising academic journey in the field of engineering. Tragically, her life was cut short in a fatal car accident during her Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering at Clemson University in the United States. Today, we pay tribute to the extraordinary life and untimely passing of Alberta Odura Quartey.


Alberta's academic journey began at the renowned Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, where she earned a first-class honors degree in Telecom Engineering. Her dedication and passion for her studies were evident from the start, as she demonstrated exceptional aptitude and achieved outstanding academic results. Alberta's achievements did not go unnoticed, and she was appointed as a teaching assistant at KNUST in 2021, where she left a lasting impact on her colleagues and students.


Driven by her thirst for knowledge and an unwavering commitment to her field, Alberta set her sights on pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Clemson University in the United States. Her acceptance into the program was a testament to her exceptional abilities and the recognition of her potential as a scholar. With her intelligence, dedication, and promising academic record, Alberta embarked on this next chapter with great enthusiasm and determination.


Unfortunately, fate dealt a cruel blow to Alberta's promising journey. In a tragic turn of events, she lost her life in a fatal car crash during her Ph.D. program. The news sent shockwaves through the academic community, leaving family, friends, and colleagues devastated by the untimely loss of such an exceptional young talent.

According to multiple media reports, the fatal car crash occurred on June 18, 2023, on Highway 11 near Elizabeth Drive in South Carolina, USA. The collision involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions, resulting in the untimely deaths of Abena Gyamfua Ofori and Alberta Oduraa Quartey. The news of this tragic event has deeply impacted the Clemson University community, leaving everyone in a state of grief and sadness.


In response to the devastating news, the Graduate Students Association of Ghana USA branch (GRASAG-USA) released a press statement expressing their deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the deceased. The organization acknowledged the significant loss suffered by the Clemson University community and highlighted the valuable contributions made by Alberta Oduraa Quartey and Abena Gyamfua Ofori during their time as graduate students.
