Manchester City's star is in Norway for international duty, where he scored twice as Norway defeated Cyprus on Tuesday night. Even among those who support the side on Manchester's red half, he is a hugely loved personality. After a record-breaking debut season, Haaland has earned legendary status at the Etihad.
The striker has broken Premier League records on his way to winning three trophies in his first season, including the Champions League. He showed his support by taking a photo with a young admirer wearing a red shirt, covering up the emblem with his hand as he smiled.
As he walked away, Haaland remarked in his native tongue that the supporter should "get a new shirt." This season, the attacker has loved playing against United, netting a hat-trick in his first Manchester derby as City ran riot at the Etihad. He also assisted Pep Guardiola's side in winning the FA Cup over their rivals at Wembley Stadium.
The irony is that if things had gone differently, Haaland may have been wearing red instead of blue. City signed the striker from Borussia Dortmund quickly last summer, but earlier in his career, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was at Molde with Haaland at the time, advised that United purchase the player.
When it became evident that Haaland would be leaving United, Solskjaer remarked on speculation: "He [Haaland] knows what he wants to do and he knows what he's going to do." So I don't have to give any guidance to guys from other teams."
Haaland chose to stay in the Bundesliga, where he thrived, and his old agent, Mino Raiola, couldn't understand why there was so much speculation about a move to Old Trafford.
"People say Manchester United wanted out [of the deal], I don't believe it, if so, it's very strange in my opinion," he told Sky Sports. I believe there was good communication between Norwegian Ole Solskjaer and himself since they are extremely familiar with each other, and it was just a normal decision from the player that at this time he had a better sense to sign for Dortmund and that it would be the correct move for his career.
