Illy Gilmour was happy to cap off a difficult campaign with a strong performance in Scotland's 2-0 victory against Georgia in the Euro 2024 qualifying match.

Gilmour was named the game's official man of the match after excelling in possession football while making light of the soggy surroundings.

After fighting his way into the Brighton squad in the latter weeks of the season, the midfielder was making his first competitive start for Scotland this year.

Graham Potter, the person who brought Gilmour to Chelsea, was unfortunate to leave for Stamford Bridge a week after the transfer. He had to deal with being the target of a stalking campaign last autumn as well as the fact that it took him some time to join Roberto De Zerbi's team.

The 22-year-old made five starts in the final eight Premier League games, which featured victories over Manchester United, Arsenal, and Wolves in addition to a 6-0 victory over Wolves and a tie with Manchester City.

And after assisting Scotland in maintaining their perfect record in Group A of the European Championship qualifiers, he was in a high mood as he left for his summer vacation.

The former Rangers young player stated, "I am incredibly thrilled with my first start in a while. "I'm just glad to be out there performing again, having fun, and doing what I love. It's a satisfying feeling.It's been a difficult season. I had a lot of possibilities at Brighton toward the end.

Gilmour didn't let the possibility of finishing the game on Wednesday and postponing summer vacations divert him from the game.

"I was too busy sitting down trying to keep myself ticking over," he admitted. "Replay tomorrow" may have been shouted a few times, but all was OK once the water was removed from the field.Football naturally came first, with the national team. We put summer on hold until after the game because we were all so focused on it. We can now go take a rest and enjoy ourselves.
