Chelsea expected to approach Brighton over midfielder Moises Caicedo

Chelsea are set to make an official approach to Brighton regarding the potential signing of midfielder Moises Caicedo. However, the club is waiting to finalize a number of outgoing deals before proceeding. It is understood that the departures of Kai Havertz to Arsenal, Edouard Mendy to Al Ahli, Hakim Ziyech to Al Nassr, and Kalidou Koulibaly to Al Hilal are nearing completion. Chelsea has also agreed to a 30 million deal to sell Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City as part of their ongoing clear-out at Stamford Bridge.

In addition to pursuing Caicedo, Chelsea is engaged in discussions with Villarreal regarding the acquisition of forward Nicolas Jackson. The club has already reached an agreement on a 35 million release clause, although they are exploring alternative payment structures. Villarreal is believed to prefer receiving the majority, if not all, of the payment upfront. However, personal terms are not expected to pose an issue in the negotiations.

The decision to cash in on Havertz has raised some eyebrows, considering the potential for him to become one of the most expensive signings of the summer transfer window in the Premier League. Despite enduring a challenging season at Chelsea after his 75 million move from Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal is on the verge of securing a 65 million deal for the German midfielder. Evaluating Havertz's time at Chelsea and his future at Arsenal raises questions about his legacy at Stamford Bridge, which club would benefit more from the deal, and the qualities that make him an attractive prospect for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

Chelsea's pursuit of Caicedo and the sale of Havertz exemplify the club's proactive approach in the transfer market. By offloading several players and making strategic signings, they aim to reshape their squad for the upcoming season. The negotiations with Brighton and Villarreal underscore Chelsea's ambition to strengthen their midfield and attacking options, demonstrating their determination to compete at the highest level domestically and in European competitions.
