Liverpool are battling bitter rivals Manchester United to sign Mason Mount from Premier League giants Chelsea, but have yet to submit an offer to the England international

Liverpool will not look back on last season with much favor.

Although Jurgen Klopp's men beat Manchester City 3-1 to win the Community Shield, they failed to make it far in the Champions League, FA Cup or Carabao Cup. They also finished in 5th place on the Premier League table and will be relegated to the Europa League next season.

Klopp will be keen to win the Europa League after losing the 2016 final to Sevilla, but the Liverpool boss will need to bring in reinforcements this summer to get his side competitive again. He also had to replace some of his starting stars. The Reds have confirmed that Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - along with a number of young players - will leave the club when their contracts expire this month. But who follows Klopp? Here are the latest Merseyside transfer rumors.

A targeted Turkish prodigy

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Liverpool are interested in signing Fenerbahce attacking midfielder Arda Guler.

The 18-year-old has been described as the 'Lionel Messi of Türkiye' following his breakout season with Fenerbahce. The talent scored six goals and provided seven assists in 35 appearances last season, helping Fenerbahce win the Turkish Cup.

Guler also made his national team debut in November and scored in Türkiye's 2-0 win over Wales on Monday. He has won four senior caps to date.

Guler's impressive resume has attracted interest from Liverpool, AC Milan, Benfica, Sevilla and Real Madrid. He is said to have a €17.5m (£15m) release clause in his contract. Red Devils step up Chiesa's interest

Liverpool are considering a €40m (£34.4m) bid for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Juventus are said to be willing to spend money on the 25-year-old Italian after scoring just 2 goals and 5 assists in Serie A last season. The Red Devils have been linked with Chiesa, who won Euro 2020 and was named in the Team of the Year for a while.

Juventus are said to be waiting for €60m (£51.6m) for Chiesa, who has two years left on his contract. Signing a striker is not a priority for Liverpool as they have Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota on their roster. enhanced editing

According to The Athletic, Chelsea have turned down a second offer from Manchester United for Liverpool target Mason Mount.

Mount, 24, has just one year left on his current contract. Chelsea are struggling to agree a new contract with the England international and could be forced to sell him this summer, putting Liverpool on red alert. However, it was Man Utd who moved him.

The Red Devils have offered £50m for Mount (£45m upfront), but Chelsea are said to want £65m (£60m upfront). Man Utd's failure to reach an agreement for Mount could allow Liverpool to beat their biggest rivals to the signing of the midfielder.
