Manchester City star Ruben Dias has acted as Cristiano Ronaldo's personal bodyguard following an incident during Portugal's Euro 2024 qualifier against Iceland.

Portugal won 1-0 in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik on Tuesday night, with Ronaldo's priceless goal in the 89th minute.

It was the 123rd international goal for the 38-year-old in his 200th appearance for Portugal.

The nation maintains a 100% record in qualifying for Euro 2024, with Roberto Martinez's side still not conceding a goal in their four matches.

They are two points ahead of second-placed Slovakia when both teams play on September 8. Ronaldo's goal against Iceland was not initially celebrated, with the striker's close-range finish having been verified by VAR.

But when the goal was scored, the football legend ran quickly towards the corner, encouraging his teammates to join him.

However, one fan got too excited as he watched Ronaldo score and run down the pitch towards the striker before he was tackled by Dias.

Dias stops the pitch invader from approaching Ronaldo

The Manchester City centre-back showed lightning-quick reaction as the pitch intruder approached Ronaldo.

Dias grabbed the supporter's shirt, pulling it off Ronaldo, before security forces intervened and took the supporter off the field. You can see the problem below.

Fans took to social media to react to the incident, comparing it to a moment involving Argentine duo Rodrigo De Paul and Lionel Messi.

In the match against Honduras last year, there was a scuffle between the two teams and De Paul quickly stepped in to protect his compatriot.

One fan wrote:

"Ronaldo finally has his own De Paul."

Another added:

"Messi's bodyguard = De Paul. Ronaldo's bodyguard = Dias."

A third fan said:

"No, it's a personal matter."

While another fan had a different opinion:

"Dias started my brother's villain arc."

And one fan commented:

"You can see Ronaldo saying thank you with a handshake."

With the current streak of international matches over, Ronaldo will focus on starting the Saudi Arabia Professional Football League season with Al Nassr. He will be joined in the division by several well-known stars, with Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante being the hottest names to move to Saudi Arabia so far this summer. Dias' Manchester City team-mate Bernardo Silva has also been linked with a move to the league.
