A list of the most expensive Premier League signings adjusted for inflation shows Alan Shearer's move to Newcastle is now worth £222m.
From pitching billionaire bosses to big TV deals, transfers have exploded since the turn of the century.
Jack Grealish's highly publicized £100m transfer from Aston Villa to Manchester City is one of the biggest in recent times alongside Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea [£106.8m] and Antony to Manchester United [86 million pounds].
But what about transfers from the '90s? Last year, The Athletic published a fascinating report based on a football inflation calculator by football financier Kieran Maguire and his colleague Jason Laws from the University of Liverpool. Advertisement
For example, Roy Keane's move from Nottingham Forest to United was confirmed at £3.75m in 1993, but if you factor in inflation the move is now worth £94.2m, according to the calculator.
Other examples include Stan Collymore's £8.5m transfer from Nottingham Forest to Liverpool, a deal that broke the UK transfer record set by Andy Cole earlier in the year. Now the Collymore move will be worth £133m.
So who else is on the list?
