Jurgen Klopp finds a solution for Liverpool's star who is "not in a happy place" with his impending departure.

Liverpool's summer transfer business is expected to feature a number of departures, including a temporary exit for one player who had a difficult end to last season.

Jurgen Klopp is willing to let Fabio Carvalho leave Liverpool on loan after a difficult first season at Anfield.

After joining the Reds last summer, the former Fulham star had an immediate impact, but by the end of the season, he had run out of minutes. An early exit for the Portugal Under-21 international had been suggested, but Klopp does not appear to be ready to give up on Carvalho entirely.

RB Leipzig have been sniffing around for a bargain on a player who still has time on his side. However, with a loan rather than a purchase, the Reds will be able to assess if Carvalho, like fellow Premier League prospects Emile Smith Rowe and Ethan Ampadu, can return stronger following a stint at Red Bull Arena.

Liverpool and RB Leipzig have begun talks about a season-long loan, according to The Athletic. The Reds earlier turned down a £12.7 million bid and have no ambitions to sell the 20-year-old, but Klopp has previously mentioned a loan.

"I think there is a possibility that maybe Fabio will go on loan or whatever," the German stated after the season's last game, in which Carvalho was an unused substitute in the draw with Southampton. "We'll see. The issue is, in a very young career, this was certainly not Fabio's best year, but it may have been his most important."

Marco Rose's Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga last season, ensuring them a place in the Champions League. They have already signed a number of players this summer, notably Slovenian wonderkid Benjamin Sesko, but they still have work to do to compensate for the loss of Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea.

Carvalho appeared in all seven of Liverpool's league games last season, scoring a last-gasp winner against Newcastle and also scoring in the 9-0 triumph over Bournemouth. However, after a difficult few months, Klopp admitted how a period without first-team minutes - which was not the player's fault - had affected the new recruit.

"Obviously, he's not in a happy place at the moment," Klopp told The Echo in February. "You can't tell on the field or when I see him. It's not evident, but I assume he wants to play because he's a footballer, and he didn't get enough opportunities.

"That won't help much, but it's just another thing to deal with in a long career." For the time being, it appears to me that he is taking it as well as he can."

Things didn't get any easier in the weeks that followed those remarks. Carvalho was named to the matchday squad for 12 of Liverpool's past 16 games, although he only played for eight minutes - two in the defeat at Bournemouth and six in the 3-0 win at Leicester.
