Liverpool make a move for Gabri Veiga, but Celta Vigo refuse to budge on their transfer position.

Following the signing of Alexis MacAllister, Liverpool could be set to sign Celta Vigo's Gabri Veiga as their second summer signing ahead of a Europa League campaign.

Liverpool are preparing to increase their interest in Gabri Veiga, although they may be stymied by Celta Vigo's demands.

Veiga, an academy graduate, is coming off a breakout season in which he scored 11 goals in La Liga. After losing James Milner and Naby Keita, the 21-year-old could help Liverpool continue their midfield makeover.

The Reds have already signed Alexis MacAllister, but they need more players to replace those who have left. Veiga, who has a €40 million release clause, might well suit the bill, although Jurgen Klopp's side may prefer a cheaper deal.

Liverpool, according to Mundo Deportivo, have made an offer to Veiga. Celta, on the other hand, is steadfast in its determination to reclaim the full release clause for the youngster.

"The clauses are in place, and it is one of the requirements of La Liga," Mourino said in April to Cadena SER (via Football Espana). "We will not sell Gabri Veiga, but they will purchase him from us."

"No one has to bargain with us. We know there have been calls from teams, but we don't know who has spoken with Gabri Veiga. Other teams contacted us and asked if we could assist them."

Liverpool's signing of Mac Allister is expected to be the first of many as Klopp's team looks to bounce back from a difficult 2022-23 season. Despite a late comeback, the Reds missed out on Champions League qualification and will play in the Europa League next season.

Former Argentina player, who joins from Brighton, is a World Cup champion. Argentina's Mac Allister started the 2022 tournament on the bench, but he took his chance and started the final, which Lionel Scaloni's team won on penalties.

"I don't think the football world needs me to say too much about Alexis' qualities because they are already pretty well known," Klopp said after the transaction was finalized. "He is calm and composed, and he has good game intelligence."

After Celta fell into relegation peril early last season, Veiga helped the team avoid the drop under Carlos Carvalhal. The former Swansea manager has previously lauded the 21-year-old, who scored both goals in the club's final-day victory over champions Barcelona.

"In my career, I've only seen one or two players who have the characteristics of Veiga, He is a very complete player," Carvalhal remarked.

"He is not like the other midfielders in Spain, who are usually about touch and possession." Gabri cracks open games."
