Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville thinks the Glazer family needs a clear departure plan if Sir Jim Ratcliffe is successful in acquiring the Old Trafford team.
The British billionaire's proposal for United calls for him to acquire a controlling interest while retaining a stake for Joel and Avram Glazer.
Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, a Qatari banker, is Ratcliffe's major opponent for the club and is offering a full buy-out.
Neville stated that the removal of the Glazers, who are extremely unpopular with supporters, must be a first priority for whoever is successful in the process, which is currently in its ninth month.
When asked which new owner Neville he preferred, during the European Football Fans Congress.
Even the manner they are handling the sale process causes it to finally drag on since they are unable to decide.
There are other instances in the club right now where people can't really handle challenging situations.I'm hoping for a full exit. I don't like the idea of the Ratcliffe bid since it appears to be a partial exit with two of them remaining. If that bid is accepted, I'd like to believe that the Glazer brothers will have a predetermined exit, say, in two years, so that we are aware of a predetermined exit for them.
With regard to the priorities that any new owner should set once they take over, Neville continued, "They would immediately have to look at the football side of things because football clubs should be about football performance. However, you might consider several things at once. Manchester United had the best team, the best stadium, and the best training facility when they took over the club 20 years ago, but "we are now second-rate in all those categories, we are nowhere near it."Jim Ratcliffe wouldn't likely give that a quick glance, in my opinion. I believe he would focus on the football aspect, getting that right and winning over the supporters.
