Darwin Nunez offers a heartfelt message to Luis Suarez amid retirement rumors

Luis Suarez, a Liverpool star, is reportedly on the verge of retirement at Brazilian club Gremio, with the 36-year-old currently hindered by a long-term knee injury.

Darwin Nunez has praised fellow Uruguayan Luis Suarez as speculation about his retirement grows.

Suarez, 36, joined Gremio in January, scoring a hat trick on debut to help the club win the state league title. However, the attacker has also been plagued by a long-term knee problem, prompting rumours that his colorful career is coming to an end.

Indeed, club President Alberto Guerra admitted last month that "Luis Suarez is reaching the limit, in order to be able to play, he gives himself almost daily injections and special treatments, he is in constant pain." It is grave. Suarez has the option of having a prosthetic fitted."

Nunez followed in the footsteps of his compatriot when he arrived at Anfield a year ago for a club-record fee of £85 million. His aggressive personality has unavoidably evoked similarities to Luis Suarez, who was sent off on his home debut for headbutting Crystal Palace's Joachim Andersen.

However, the 23-year-old has failed to reach the heights that Suarez accomplished on the field in Merseyside, managing only nine Premier League goals despite some erratic finishing. Fans, though, remain optimistic that the forward, who also scored four times in the Champions League, has more to offer.

And the star revealed a softer side of himself when he appeared in a YouTube video with Shoot for Love, in which the strength and accuracy of his shooting were tested in a series of amusing activities. At the end of the video, the hosts showed him an old clip of Suarez, who scored 82 goals in 133 appearances with the Reds, curling a football into a basketball net from a distance.

Nunez also claimed to having seen the film before, adding, "I have seen the Luis Suarez video before." Luis, my friend, is an idol to me." He pounded his heart three times after speaking, indicating his World Cup buddy.

Suarez has already expressed his support for Nunez, who has struggled in the Premier League despite scoring on the opening day against Fulham. It took him until October to score his first goal at Anfield, in a 1-0 victory over West Ham.

And his 'hero' promptly tweeted him to celebrate the goal, writing, "The first of many, scorer!" Keep it up, and enjoy the incredible stadium and atmosphere! #YNWA."
