The sale of Guglielmo Vicario to Tottenham would be a source of "pride" for Empoli as he is on the brink of a move to the Premier League club.
A deal worth around £17 million has been agreed for the north London goalkeeper, according to reports from Italy, with the 26-year-old being seen as a possible long-term successor to Hugo Lloris. A medical check is said to be planned for Vicario, who will fly to England in the coming hours. After that, Spurs could announce their first signing of the Ange Postecoglou era.
Tottenham has beaten Italian sides Fiorentina and Inter Milan and secured the marksman, with the Nerazzurri reportedly eyeing him as a replacement for Manchester United target Andre Onana.
Quoting an Italian football podcast, Pagliuca said: "Vicario is a very good goalkeeper, he will be the most wanted goalkeeper in the transfer window."
"He's the goalkeeper I like the most in Serie A and now he has the right maturity to move up."
Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi expressed pride that his club's plans for Vicario had come to fruition. The Serie A club paid around £7m when he joined after being on loan from Cagliari 12 months ago. Corsi made clear earlier this week that he is willing to back the goalkeeper to repay the club's sizable investment.
"We bought it back to sell it," admits Lady Radio. “Considering our finances, we also paid a lot to sign him.
"It makes us proud that top teams are after him. He is also a special person and not just a footballer."
Hugo Lloris will leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer and it's the right time for him to go find a new challenge elsewhere for that matter, tottenham is breaking the bank to get a long-term replacement for him. At first, they were ready to sign David Raya from Brentford but the deal did not go through and finally they rea ready to complete the signing of Vicario from Empoli.
