Man United 'tracking Revolution keeper Petrovic' with de Gea's future still uncertain

Multiple reports indicate that Manchester United is scouting Djordje Petrovic, the goalkeeper for the New England Revolution. With potential significant changes expected in the goalkeeping department this summer, including David de Gea's contract expiration, Jack Butland's departure to Rangers after his loan, and uncertainty surrounding Tom Heaton's future, United is considering Petrovic as an option. The 23-year-old Serbian international finished second in the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year voting last season and joined New England in April 2022. He has a contract with the club until 2025, including a club option, and has made two appearances for the senior national team.

While Petrovic is being evaluated by Manchester United, it is reported that he would not be the first-choice goalkeeper if he were to join the club. The Red Devils are seemingly preparing for the potential departure of de Gea, who has been the starting goalkeeper for the past 12 seasons. De Gea's contract extension has not been finalized yet, and doubts are growing about the possibility of reaching an agreement. As a result, United is exploring alternatives, and one of the names previously reported is Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United representatives met with Onana's agent, Albert Botines, on Thursday to discuss a potential transfer. Initial discussions have also taken place with Inter Milan, and there is hope that Onana could be available for a fee of around 45 million. Onana previously played under current United manager Erik Ten Hag at Ajax, which adds another layer of familiarity. In addition to Onana, United has reportedly assessed other goalkeepers such as Diogo Costa from Porto, David Raya from Brentford, and Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht.

As Manchester United prepares for a potential goalkeeper reshuffle, the club is exploring various options to secure a suitable replacement. While Petrovic is being scouted, it appears that United is primarily focused on securing the services of Andre Onana from Inter Milan. The discussions with Onana's agent indicate the club's seriousness in pursuing the talented shot-stopper, who has prior experience working with manager Erik Ten Hag. The coming weeks will shed more light on United's goalkeeping plans and whether they will successfully secure their desired targets.
