The 24-year-old's contract at Stamford Bridge expires next summer, and despite months of negotiations between the two parties, talks over an extension have not resulted in an agreement.
Chelsea earlier rejected two United offers for Mount, who United hopes to capture as their first player of the summer. An earlier Friday 90min report stated that a third offer totaling £55 million plus add-ons had been submitted.
Chelsea, though, rejected United's most recent offer and counter-offered a deal with £58 million in guaranteed money plus £7 million in add-ons.
The Blues have acknowledged that Mount's future is now outside of west London and have expressed a desire to work with United, whose manager Erik ten Hag is eager to complete a move.
The two parties are still in talks, and there is optimism that a deal will be reached, according to sources who told 90min that United had threatened to leave if Chelsea rejected their third offer.
Mount is viewed as a vital addition for Ten Hag as the team gets ready to play in the Champions League again and has already reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with United.
With 195 appearances for Chelsea and 33 goals, the England international won the Champions League in 2021 with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City. Additionally successful in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, Mount had a difficult 2022–23 season due to injury issues and a decline in performance.
One of the worst-kept secrets in football has been this. It had only been a matter of time after the Blues apparently agreed to pay the Frenchman's release clause earlier in the season.
And this week, it was officially verified when the Premier League team paid around £60 million for the 25-year-old. Nkunku was initially a creator, but over the past two Bundesliga seasons, he has contributed with 36 goals and 17 assists. Incredibly, he contributed to 20 goals in just 1,900 minutes of German Bundesliga play last season.
