According to sources who spoke to 90min, Arsenal is still in negotiations with Ajax for Jurrien Timber and is optimistic that they will soon come to an agreement.
The Gunners have rapidly designated Timber as a top target in their pursuit of another defender during the summer transfer window.
This week, according to a source from 90min, Arsenal made Ajax a preliminary bid for the Netherlands international. Their €35 million offer was significantly less than the Dutch club's €60 million asking price.
Sources have told 90min that Arsenal is hoping to reduce Ajax's demands to less than €50 million, and there is optimism that a deal can be reached soon.
Manchester United and previous manager Erik ten Hag both wanted Timber.
90min is aware that Arsenal sees Timber, a center-back who can also play in midfield and at right-back, as a player who can function similarly to the adaptable Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The idea is to either have Timber mirror Zinchenko on the right side of defense or simply offer them the choice to tilt their backline like the Ukrainian does.
After reaching an agreement on a fee with Chelsea, Arsenal is anticipated to make Kai Havertz their first summer acquisition. They also plan to resubmit their offer for Declan Rice, though they will face competition from Manchester City.
Romeo Lavia of Belgium is a midfielder that Southampton and the Gunners are in talks over.
Dahoud's tenure with BVB fell short of expectations. The 27-year-old was one of Germany's most promising players when he broke through for Borussia Mönchengladbach, and he was pursued by a number of elite clubs before joining Dortmund.
He experienced a lot of injuries while he was a member of the team; as a result, he was only able to make four starts and nine appearances last season. He is a top-notch midfielder who thrives at maintaining possession while moving the ball forward when healthy and in top form, though. Dahoud might be a smart move for Brighton, who are shrewd negotiators in the transfer market and will have to compete in European competition next season.
