Lord Of Our Confession

(The High Priest)

HEBREWS 4:14 14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

To hold fast means to say something, then keep on saying it. Don’t back off. Don’t get discouraged.

“Having a High Priest over the house of God, …let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:21, 23). Notice the change there. It is not “the confession of our faith” but “the confession of our hope.” If we confess faith long enough, it becomes hope.

What does a high priest in the Bible mean? someone who speaks for others.

In the Old Covenant, the high priest served as a mediator between the humans and God, offering sacrifices to God on their behalf.

Jesus serves as both our spokesperson and our sacrifice under the New Covenant. He is advocating for us before God and offering prayers on our behalf (Hebrews 7:25).

The Bible claims that Jesus is our defender (1 John 2:1).

An advocate is a lawyer who represents a client in court.

Jesus makes a defense for us. However, Jesus makes his case through our own confession, or what we are saying.

HEBREWS 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Jesus is the High Priest of our confession, according to Hebrews. That means that based on what we say, He speaks for us before God.

Father God has therefore come up with a strategy wherein He may still be just and still bless us as He pleases out of His tremendous love for us. Jesus already received all the penalties and awful things we deserve since He suffered and died as our Substitute.

Jesus serves as our advocate before the Almighty and the High Priest of our confession, or what we say. The words we use to communicate with God represent us to him. Thus, we must provide Jesus with the appropriate words to provide on our behalf.

What should we then say? What God has already stated about us in His Word, the Bible, is what we ought to say. We ought to concur with God.

..,.........Jesus speaks on my behalf in Heaven according to what I say.
