Without being bias

John 4:9a

Message

Let us learn to testify like Jesus, namely without prejudice.

The gospel of John describes a long conversation between Jesus and a Samaritan woman. Such an encounter was extraordinary at the time. Firstly, because Jewish people did not associate with Samaritan, whom they considered to be heathens - even though they all believed in the one God and the Torah. Both groups were also descendants of the sons of Jacob (John 4: 12).

The well where the conversation took place was located on land Jacob had given to Joseph.

Secondly, it was quite uncommon in biblical times for a devout Jew to speak with a woman in public, especially one of questionable character.

Samaritans recognize the Messiah.

The Bible text shows that Jesus had no prejudice toward Samaritans, nor any reservations about speaking with women. By the end of the conversation, it had become clear to the Samaritan woman that Jesus was the promised Messiah, and with excitement she returned to her village to tell the others about her encounter with Him. After the Samaritan come to Jesus and listened to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.  Afterwards they said to the woman:  "... this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world."

(John 4:42).

Jesus Christ at work

Here we can see Jesus Himself winning people over to the gospel. Because of their own prejudices the disciples were amazed at Christ's unbiased approach

(verse 27).

The direct encounter with Christ, His love, and His teaching caused this group of Samaritans to believe in Him. Because they accepted the testimony of the evangelizing woman, they found fellowship with Christ (verses 49-41).

Jesus taught us a lost about doing the right thing no matter what it might cost us. We should always walk in his way to help glorify his name. Have a great Sunday and may your prayers be answered as you walk in his ways. Forgive and you will be forgiven.
