HISTORY OF BLACKS IN EUROPE: 5 BLACKS WHO MADE A SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION

Throughout European history, Black individuals have played significant roles in shaping the continent. History mostly does not credit or mention their achievements, but indeed, there are numerous blacks who have contributed immensely to European history and development.

These five individuals are just a few examples of the important contributions that Black individuals have made to European history and cultureHere are five notable Black figures:

1. Saint Maurice - a Christian saint and the leader of the legendary Roman Theban Legion in the 3rd century.


Maurice was an African from Thebes in Egypt, and he and his legionnaires were revered as martyrs for their refusal to renounce their faith. They were sent by the emperor Maximum to go and slaughter a Christian for refusing to take part in pagan worship.

2. Olaudah Equiano - an influential African writer and abolitionist who was born in present-day Nigeria in the late 18th century. Equiano was enslaved as a child and transported to the British colonies in North America, where he eventually gained his freedom and became an outspoken activist for the abolition of slavery.


3. Alexandre Dumas - a renowned French author who was of Afro-Caribbean descent. Dumas' works, including "The Three Musketeers" and "The Count of Monte Cristo," are considered classics of French literature.


Though Eurocentric's have tried to denounce or argue about Dumas being black.

4. Mary Seacole - a Jamaican nurse who provided aid to wounded soldiers during the Crimean War in the mid-19th century. Seacole was known for her expertise in herbal remedies, and she was a contemporary of Florence Nightingale.

5. Josephine Baker - an American-born dancer and singer who became a sensation in Paris in the 1920s. Baker, who was of African descent, was known for her provocative performances and her contributions to the French Resistance during World War II.


She eventually became a French citizen and was honored with a state funeral after her death in 1975.
