The Arsenal manager appears to be on a mission this transfer window, but Mikel Arteta has already encountered one issue before a big-money acquisition has arrived.
Mikel Arteta may have a new headache to cope with before Kai Havertz's debut as an Arsenal player, which is due at the start of this week.
While the Gunners manager is overjoyed to have landed a player of Havertz's caliber, there are already rumors that the arrival of the Germany international will make a few heads turn. Eddie Nketiah, in particular, is said to be concerned about what Havertz's coming implies for his own playing time.
Given that Havertz played in a variety of roles during his three years at Chelsea, Arsenal fans are unsure where Arteta would attempt to deploy him ahead of his £60 million move. Some have speculated that he may play as a left-sided eight in midfield, but he is far more likely to play as an attacker.
That is, of course, bad news for Nketiah. According to SunSport, the Arsenal star believes he is at a crossroads in his career and will need regular football if the purchase of Havertz prevents him from doing so.
Nketiah would not be short on suitors, with all three of London's West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Fulham now interested.
Havertz is on his way from Chelsea to Arsenal, a transfer that is always fraught with controversy, but the 24-year-old appears to have enraged more than simply Nketiah. With his move to Arsenal due to be finalized soon, the former Bayer Leverkusen man decided to have some fun on Twitter.
He chose to upload a photo with Blues teammate Matteo Kovacic, who is also poised to leave Stamford Bridge to join Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, with the comment "We're ready."
Many supporters saw the message as a sly dig at Chelsea, given that both are on their way out the door. In the answers, Havertz clearly sensed the fury of the Blues fans, who were enraged by the inflammatory upload.
Arsenal manager Arteta had already praised Havertz in a recent interview before the transaction was confirmed.
"Talent comes at a price," Arteta explained to Spanish publication Marca. "At Arsenal, we are always interested in youngsters with experience."
"I repeat, I'm not referring to players from other clubs, but in the case of Kai, he has already demonstrated a great deal, including in the Champions League." He is a good, dynamic player who is only 24 years old."
