Liverpool has reportedly started talks to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.
After being relegated from the Premier League, Southampton is ready to sell Lavia this summer but is asking for a transfer fee of £45m.
The 19-year-old, who joined the Saints from Manchester City for £14 million last year, has produced several impressive performances in his debut season in the Premier League.
Arsenal has been in talks about signing Lavia this summer but Mikel Arteta's team are prioritizing deals for Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, and Jurien Timber.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool also has Lavia on their summer roster and has now started talks about a possible deal for the midfielder.
Liverpool has also held talks over a move for Nice midfielder Kefren Thuram but is yet to reach an agreement with the French club. Jurgen Klopp's side has signed Alexis McAllister from Brighton in a £35m deal this month, but the Liverpool manager is looking to expand his options in midfield.
Meanwhile, Lavia is also on Chelsea's radar as Mauricio Pochettino looks set to strengthen his midfield ahead of the new season.
However, former Southampton and England midfielder Carlton Palmer has urged Lavia to turn down a move to Stamford Bridge. “I think given his age; Chelsea didn't fit in," Palmer told Football League World.
"You still have to clarify things with the squad. I think Man United have a lot of work to do with the current squad."
"I think for me and for the player to develop, he would be a better fit to go to Arsenal with Arteta. This team is young and successful.”
After signing Marc-Allister from Brighton, it seems Liverpool is quite slow in this summer transfer but surely, they will make some purchases and again let some players leave before the end of the transfers. Jurgen Klopp will like to reshuffle his midfield this summer and it will take him some time to do that.
