Man United 'agree deal to sign highly-rated Watford defender Harry Amass'
Manchester United are on the verge of finalizing the signing of highly-rated defender Harry Amass from Watford. The 16-year-old is considered one of the most promising young talents in football, and a deal has been agreed upon, paving the way for his imminent move to Old Trafford.
Amass, primarily a left-back, had previously signed an early scholarship deal with Watford. As per the Premier League's Elite Player Performance Plan, Manchester United will be required to pay compensation to the Hornets for acquiring the young player's services. Having joined Watford at the tender age of nine, Amass has already showcased his abilities by featuring for the club's Under-18 and Under-21 squads. Notably, he delivered impressive performances against Everton and Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup.
The Hornets were eager to retain their teenage prodigy and had even offered him a professional contract beyond his scholarship deal. However, it appears that Amass is now set to make his way to Manchester. The young defender has also represented England at the youth level, making his debut for the Under-15 team at the age of 14 in December 2021. He has since progressed to the England Under-16 side and is expected to be included in the Three Lions squad for the Under-17 World Cup scheduled for November.
Once the transfer is completed, Amass will become the second promising prospect to depart from Watford during this transfer window. Adrian Blake, another young talent, turned down a professional contract with the club and instead joined FC Utrecht in the Netherlands.
The acquisition of Harry Amass highlights Manchester United's commitment to bolstering their youth ranks with promising talents. The club recognizes Amass's potential and believes he can develop into a key player in the future. The move signifies an exciting opportunity for the young defender to further his career at one of the world's most renowned football clubs.
