The Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, strongly asserted that it is "highly inappropriate" for James Gyakye Quayson, the Member-elect for the Assin North constituency, to be subjected to a daily criminal trial while others are exempt from the same legal process. Bagbin firmly conveyed his disapproval of the selective application of the law to certain individuals during his interactions with both the public and the judiciary. He emphasized that it is not a matter of personal convenience but rather a matter of fair treatment for all citizens. In light of this concern, Bagbin voiced his belief in the necessity of transitioning from rule by law to the rule of law. He emphasized that the rule of law is an indispensable pillar on which democracy is built and can properly function. By advocating for the rule of law, Bagbin envisions a society where legal decisions and actions are applied uniformly and in line with just principles, rather than being arbitrarily administered to serve the interests of a select few.

"The law is not the center of democracy; this is one of the flaws of our [1992] constitution. If you read it, you'll notice that the law respects a wide range of people. In Ghana, a huge number of people disregard the law. Democracy cannot exist, so we must strive diligently to achieve it. For this reason, we must begin the constitutional review process.

In order to meet with management and the editorial team, the Speaker of the House of Commons visited the Graphic Communications Group Ltd. (GCGL) office.

The purpose of the Speaker's working trip to Graphic was to speak with the editing department's management and staff.

This is consistent with the Speaker's goal of improving relations between Parliament and the media.

After being elected Speaker of Parliament, this is the Speaker's first official visit to a media organization.
He was accompanied by a few of his office's employees.
Today, James Gyakye Quayson will take the oath of office as the representative for Assin North.
This morning [June 29], Alban S.K. Bagbin, Speaker of the House, announced it.
Following an abrupt stop to business last Tuesday, Parliament will resume its session today, June 29.
As numerous Members of Parliament (MPs) from both the Majority and Minority sides traveled to the Assin North Constituency in the Central Region to participate in the political campaign and monitor the by-election, there was not the quorum necessary for parliamentary business to proceed.

Gyakye Quayson will appear in court this morning for his criminal trial, and then he will travel to Parliament to take the oath of office.
