Benjamin Mendy told the accused victim that he planned to kidnap her, according to the jury in a rape trial.
WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT - The 28-year-old footballer, whose contract with Manchester City expires on Friday, denies one allegation of attempted rape and a separate count of rape.
Benjamin Mendy told an alleged victim the night before he allegedly attempted to rape her that he wanted to kidnap her, and he boasted to another woman he is accused of raping that he had slept with 10,000 females, according to the jury in the footballer's retrial.
Mendy, 28, is accused with one count of attempted rape in October 2018 and another of vaginal rape in October 2020. Judge Steven Everrett informed the jury of six men and six women at Chester Crown Court that this was a retrial, and Mendy was cleared of several offences.
Mr Benjamin Aina KC, representing the crown, told the jury in his opening statement on Thursday afternoon that in regard to the first incident, which allegedly occurred in October 2018, Mr Mendy walked in on the woman while she was showering at his home after a night out in Cheshire.
Mendy and the accused victim were out with a friend with whom the woman had consensually engaged in sexual contact, according to the jury. During supper, Mendy informed the woman, "When he's not looking, I'm gonna kidnap you," to which she answered, "No, you're not." They went back to his Cheshire home to continue their socializing, and the woman slept in a guest bedroom with Mendy's companion.
However, the French footballer allegedly attempted to rape the woman the next morning after walking in on her while she was showering.
"She was in shock," Mr. Aina KC told the jury. She grabbed a towel. Mr Mendy followed her into the bedroom while she was wearing a towel. She reached inside her suitcase for underpants, but Mr Mendy seized it from her grasp. When she reached for her bra, Mr Mendy pulled it from her grasp.
"He sat on the bed, grabbed her, and sat her on top of him." He was saying something like, 'I like it when you speak French.' 'You don't have to be afraid, I just want to feel you, I'm not going to do anything to you, I'm not going to put anything in or anything,' he added.
Mendy is then accused of attempting to rape her.
The second alleged victim said that Mendy assaulted her at his home in October 2020 after meeting him at a bar in Alderley Edge with pals.
According to Mr. Aina KC, the women "were given the address and drove to Mr. Mendy's home," but upon arrival "were asked to hand over their mobile phones to protect Mr. Mendy from unwanted social media intrusion and any difficulties around breaking Covid restrictions."
According to the prosecution's lawyer, the alleged victim stated that "she didn't want to hand over her phone and didn't want to be cut off from the outside world." As a result, she did not hand it over."
"The group of girls ended up in the swimming pool area of the house, and while in the pool area, the woman messaged a friend," Mr Aina KC added. According to the prosecution, Mr Mendy saw this and snatched her phone, stating he was going to inspect it. Mr Mendy walked up the stairs with her phone, inevitably pursued by the woman who kept saying, 'Give me my phone back.'
"She was upset because it was her personal property, and she felt treated like a child." She was also anxious since she had private, intimate photographs on her phone that she didn't want him to see. He entered a bedroom.
