Cesc Fabregas, 36, RETIRES 'with great sadness' from Arsenal and Chelsea.
Cesc Fabregas, a former Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea midfielder, has announced his retirement from professional football after a 20-year career.
Cesc Fabregas announced his retirement in an emotional statement, bringing an end to a glittering career.
The 36-year-old former Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Spain midfielder has won it all at club and international level. However, his season in Serie B with Como was his final as a player, and he will now join the Italian club's coaching staff.
"It is with great sadness that the time has come for me to hang up my playing boots," Fabregas stated after hanging up his boots. I will cherish every moment of my time at Barcelona, Arsenal, Barcelona again, Chelsea, Monaco, and Como.
"From winning the World Cup and the Euros to winning everything in England and Spain and nearly all of Europe, it's been a journey I'll never forget."
"I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me, including my teammates, coaches, directors, presidents, owners, fans, and my agent." I value all of my family's wisdom, mentorship, and direction, from my parents and sister to my wife and children. Thank you to my opponents who tried to knock me out for making me stronger.
"With all of the wonderful memories and friends I've made along the way, it's already been more than worth it."
"I've also learned three languages and grown more compassionate and wiser as a result of my travels." I went through things I never thought I'd go through in a million years.
"It's not all bad news, though, because I'm about to cross the white line and start coaching Como 1907's B and Primavera teams." I'm quite excited about this group and initiative.
"From the first minute, this charming football team won my heart and came to me at the perfect time in my career." I'll take it with both hands. So, after 20 great years of struggle, commitment, and delight, it's time to say farewell and thank you to the lovely game. "I enjoyed every minute of it."
Fabregas began his professional career at Arsenal, where he made his first-team debut at the age of 16 in 2003, making him the club's youngest ever player. In his debut season, the Spaniard scored once in three games before going on to enjoy a stunning breakout season.
Fabregas also won the FA Cup that season, appearing 46 times in all competitions. He went on to win the Golden Boy award and was the most fascinating teenager on the planet at the time. Fabregas, who had made over 300 games for Arsenal, opted to embark on a new journey by joining childhood club Barcelona in 2011.
Fabregas earned his first league trophy in 2013 with Barcelona, and he was a key part in Pep Guardiola's tremendously successful side. In fact, Fabregas, along with Xavi, Andres Iniesta, and Sergio Busquets, would create one of the world's most powerful midfield quartets.
After three years in his native Spain, where he scored 41 goals in 151 games, Fabregas returned to England and joined with Chelsea, who are attempting to win the Premier League under Jose Mourinho. Mourinho created a machine-like side that dominated England in 2014/15, and the Blues accomplished precisely that.
