Tony Cascarino has claimed that Darwin Nunez might not have what it takes to cut it at Liverpool, with the forward likened to former Chelsea man Timo Werner. Speaking on TalkSport, the pundit made the astonishing claim that the Uruguayan international has all the makings of being another big-money flop in the Premier League, with Cascarino comparing Nunez’s form to that of Wenrer and Fernando Torres’ at Chelsea. The two former Blues strikers were highly criticized during their time in west London for their lack of goals and penchant to waste easy opportunities, something Nunez has struggled with since joining Liverpool from Benfica last summer.

Premier League – Liverpool FC vs. Brentford FCThe two former Blues strikers were widely chastised during their time in west London for their lack of goals and willingness to waste easy opportunities, something Nunez has struggled with since joining Liverpool last summer from Real Madrid. However, after scoring 15 goals in all competitions last season, Liverpool fans are hopeful that Nunez can reach the heights many expect the 24-year-old to achieve at Anfield. Cascarino, on the other hand, is not convinced in the least.
"In the last year or so, Klopp has seen a lot of attack-minded players come in," the pundit observed. But Nunez, I'm not sure. He's been at Anfield for a year and it hasn't worked out. He's had a terrible year; he appears to be the next Torres or Timo Werner. He's not going to convert no matter how many opportunities he gets."
Comparisons between Nunez and Werner are easy to make, but given how different the two players are outside of their native positions, such statements are lazy. And, according to the Liverpool manager, the former Benfica player has the potential to become a superstar.
Nunez, as we all know, will be completely accustomed to life in the Premier League following his first season in England. And, with 15 goals to his name, the striker has the ability to blast this total out of the water if given the opportunity to play alongside the likes of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.
