Former President John Dramani Mahama and the chairman of the 2024 elections have received a stern warning from the chairperson of the electoral commission, Madam Jean Mensa. Her remark comes after two credible by-elections that were both peaceful and held in Kumawu and Assin North.
Speaking to the public following the Assin North elections, Madam Jean Mensa observed that the results of the elections between Kumawu and Assin North demonstrate unequivocally that the EC is not corrupt and cannot rig elections for a single party, contrary to what the NDC and Mahama claimed following the 2020 polls.
Everything was done at the polling place, just like the general elections. Party agents can all clearly witness the legitimacy and transparency of the election process.
She claimed that the by-election was fair and free for all parties to observe from beginning to conclusion. She claimed that the 2020 elections followed the same procedures. She didn't just sit in her office and alter the numbers.
The public, including observers, were in full view of the polling station setup, polling materials layout, voting and arranging, counting of ballots, and declaration of the results.
The electoral commission said that while the NDC is celebrating its victory in the Assin North, they should keep in mind that if things don't go their way, they should go accusing someone of rigging the results. She then said that the NPP should accept their loss in good faith and wish for the best.
We call on the stakeholders, when it did not go in their favour, to accept the results , and not batardise the election management body, because the election is credible and transparent. She said.
