Didier Drogba reacts to Mason Mount's Chelsea exit by attacking Todd Boehly.
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has shared his opinion on Mason Mount's Stamford Bridge exit, only months after delivering a scathing assessment of Todd Boehly's tenure as Blues owner.
Didier Drogba, a Chelsea star, has broken his silence on Mason Mount's departure from the club, just two months after launching a harsh attack on Blues owner Todd Boehly.
Mount's transfer to Manchester United was revealed on Wednesday morning, but the England international confirmed his departure from Chelsea on Tuesday night with a short video statement posted to his Instagram profile. Mount chose to focus on his highlights in west London rather than announce his future destination in the film.
The video elicited numerous responses, but Drogba's stood out considering his standing as a Chelsea icon. The Ivorian icon posted the brief video to his Instagram account with the description, "Another prince leaving the club of his life." Thank you, and best wishes to you, champs," accompanied with the hashtag "#oneofourowncfc."
Drogba's comments appear to be laced with disappointment that Chelsea is going to say goodbye to one of the most brilliant players to emerge from their academy system.
This would not be the first time Drogba has been dissatisfied with the acts of those in charge of the club, with the former Blues striker being harsh in his assessment of the Chelsea owners following the club's elimination from the Champions League back in April.
"During the Abramovich era, I knew this club with a certain class, but today I find it lacking." "It's difficult for me to understand how they got rid of certain people," Drogba raged at the time. "They should return to their original principles and values."
"I'm not familiar with my club." The club is no longer the same; there is a new owner and a new concept. Of course, we compare it to the [Roman] Abramovich era, when a lot of players were brought in, but the decisions were really clever."
Drogba later made possibly his most scathing criticism, claiming, "They lack charismatic leaders." You need players who commit to the game and accept their obligations. You need a player who can bring some craziness to the stadium."
The statements take on new significance now that Chelsea has lost one of the few players in their squad who might be regarded a leader as well as someone who could turn the game for them.
Mount's move to Old Trafford does not bode well for Chelsea, given the midfielder is yet in his prime and has already been snapped up by a direct Premier League competitor.
The Blues had sought for some time to negotiate a new contract with their academy graduate as his contract expired, but Mount's demands were not met, and as a result, he'll be lining up in red for United next season.
Drogba's anger at his departure and against the owners will undoubtedly grow as Mount settles in at Old Trafford, but it is up to Boehly to ensure the Blues recover from this latest setback.
