Despite selecting another new manager, Brazil has announced Carlo Ancelotti's start date.
Carlo Ancelotti will take over as Brazil manager in time for the Copa America next summer, having completed the final year of his contract with current employer Real Madrid.
Carlo Ancelotti will take over as Brazil manager when his contract with Real Madrid expires next summer.
Ancelotti has been heavily connected with the post in Brazil, and Brazilian Football Confederation head Ednaldo Rodrigues has officially confirmed the proposal. Fluminense manager Fernando Diniz has been appointed on a 12-month deal and will be replaced by Ancelotti in June 2024.
The Italian has never before led an international team, but he will join the Selecao ahead of the Copa America in the United States. Real Madrid had yet to respond to Rodrigues' announcement on Wednesday.
"His (Diniz's) game plan is almost identical to that of Ancelotti, the coach who will take over at Copa America," he stated. "We will not refer to him as the national team's interim coach." He will travel to Brazil to assist Ancelotti in his transition."
Diniz will continue to lead the Brazilian national team while still remaining with Fluminense. Ancelotti was under pressure at Real after their 4-0 thumping by Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final in May, but he has kept his job.
"I have a contract until June 2024, and the club has already guaranteed that I will fulfill it." "Everyone knows exactly what I want to do," he stated at the time, emphasizing his support from club president Florentino Perez.
"We talked yesterday, as we do every week. We met, discussed the match, and he showed me his affection and support," he explained. "We also discussed the previous two seasons, and we will continue to move forward with the same or greater desire to do a good job."
If Ancelotti survives the 2023/24 season without being fired, his stay at Real will conclude on one of two days. The LaLiga season will end on May 26, while the Champions League final will take place on June 1. With the Copa America starting on June 20, he won't have much time to transition.
Diniz is excited to keep the seat warm for Ancelotti in the meantime. "Ive worked with some of the players when they were younger, Bruno Guimaraes and Antony, for example, he said.
I have followed the growth of that entire generation a lot. I was also an adversary of some and I have ended up admiring many others playing in Brazil and abroad in Europe.
Speaking in June, Neymar made it clear that Ancelotti would have the backing of the Brazil squad. We all know him, we know how amazing he is, he said. To have him in the team would be very important. But there is nothing confirmed as of yet. We hope that he comes after his contract ends.
