Ukraine's amazing run in the European Under 21 Championship came to an end earlier today, when they faced Spain in the competition's quarterfinal.

Both clubs advanced from the same group and tied 2-2 in their first match. This meant that the semifinal was expected to be another close match, but this was not the case.

Despite grabbing the lead immediately after the ten-minute mark, the Eastern European country was defeated 5-1. Despite the fact that their run has come to an end, they may be immensely pleased of their achievements in the tournament.

Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudryk is one player who has accomplished his goals with the team. The 22-year-old attacker agreed to participate in the competition solely because he wanted to get a decent run of games in before the upcoming season.

And, despite missing all of the group games and only appearing in two matches, the forward can be proud of the impact he had on his side.

Mudryk was able to create three goals for Ukraine in just two matches and less than 180 minutes on the pitch: he won a penalty and made a beautiful assist against France in the quarterfinals. He also gave another great assist for Ukraine's lone goal in the final.

The 22-year-old attacker agreed to participate in the event solely because he wanted to have a nice time.

Despite the loss in the semifinal, Mudryk was sitting down the Spain defenders and nearly got a second assist when he took up the ball at the half-way mark, executed a reverse flip flap, burned about three men and fired a fantastic left footed cross that was stopped by a great save.

Some may argue that it's only the under-21s, but it's encouraging to see Mudryk gaining confidence and looking excellent on the pitch.

This was the reason he came, and he got it. However, it would have been good for him to win the cup.

He hasn't played much football this year, but the experience will come in handy when he joins Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.
